The following steps will take you through the process of commissioning a portrait with me.
Photography
Choosing the photograph you'd like me to work from for your portrait is the key element of the process. Please see my Photography Tips for help on how to take and choose the best photo. If the photo is one you would frame and have on your mantel piece, then the chances are it will be a good photo for a commission!
Medium, Composition & Size
The next step is to decide which medium (i.e. pencil, pastel, acrylic or watercolour) you'd like me to use. Please take a look at my portfolio to help you choose. Also, it is time to think what composition you may want - whether that be a traditional head & shoulder piece or a more contemporary or jaunty pose. Finally, size: please see my commission page for details of sizes and prices. If you would like to have multiple subjects in one portrait then I would recommend no smaller than a medium (12" x 8") portrait for two subjects, any smaller than this and I would struggle to portray enough detail.
Timing
I have a lead time of roughly 4 - 6 weeks, so please factor this into your timings for commissioning me. However, should time or a deadline be a specific factor please do let me know and I shall try my best to accommodate it.
Payment
Once your portrait has been discussed and finalised I am ready to accept your 20% non-refundable deposit. The full balance is payable on completion, prior to posting or collection.
Throughout the process I shall keep in touch with you via email, text or social media, whichever is preferred, so you can see how the portrait is developing. I shall also post updates on Facebook and Instagram, unless requested not to in the case of a surprise gift.
On completion I shall send you a proof for your approval. Once you are happy it is time to send the final payment, once received your picture shall be wrapped and dispatched. If you are local then collection is also welcome.
